HELP FOR THE BELGIANS

AN ELTHAM EFFORT. The Belgian Sewing Guild at Eltliam has for the past two years sent forward regularly a large quantity of new clothing for destitute Belgian children. A l'ccent consignment included 690 garments. This guild dispatches also by each transport a considerable quantity of comforts for our soldiers in the firing line, among the Christmas gifts being over 4001bs. of good cake and a large number of plum puddings, besides a miscellaneous collection of other good things. Letters of appreciation are often received from both the Belgians and the soldiers. By tho last mail tho hon. secretary of the guild (Mrs. L. N. Fairhall) received the following letter from Mr. J. Navaux, secretary of the Belgian Relief Committee in London:—"Please accept my sillcere and heartfelt thanks in the name of my compatriots, for the further generous gift of clothing sent in tho name of your Belgian Sewing Guild for the benefit of our fund. Tho many useful gifts received from this source have proved of much value to us in our relief work, and I feel I cannot thank the kind donors enough for their generous help. Just now, when our supplies are so quickly diminishing, it is sometimes difficult to obtain sufficient to make up our consignments, therefore all gifts arc doubly welcome, and the continued assistance from kind friends in New Zealand is particularly appreciated. This last case is going to one of the centros behind the fighting. line, where tho need is greatest. Please also convey my thanks to Mrs. Barnard, the president of your guild, for her untiring efforts on behalf of my unfortunate compatriots."
