Although there is pleasure at Hie good news which wei are receiving as to the advances being made by the Allied armies m France, wo must not allow ourselves to be lulled into the belief that wo can relax our efforts on behalf of the sick and wounded. Indeed, our oasualty lists should prevent that. It,, for the moment;, the immediate requirements of the British Red Cross Society appear to be satisfied tliere may possibly be others to rt-fiom any surplus supplies can bo passed on. Tills extract from a let-tor from Franco will sorvo to show that such a tiling is more than probable:— "One of tho visiting dolegates wrote: 'I think the cnclosod list wants special •attention. It Is a very poor hospital. We inspected it in and out very thoroughly, and tallied to a good many people about it. They aro short of tiling—very few dressings or mstru- . monts, and' hardly any clothing with - which to provide tho men when they arnvo in rago. There aro no funds, ' so it is a very special case for help. They have two pairs of bedroom slippers amongst about sixty men,- and only six pillows in tho wholes establishment. TJio Medecin_ Chef had writton to tlirco societies in Paris for aid (clothing, etc.;, and had no response. He. said his, men had actually to stay in bed for want of clothing.'" It is to be hoped that the British Red Cross Society was neSt appealod to, and ablo I to respond satisfactorily.
