Douglas Haig reports: "Two counter-attacks by the enemy in the Thiepval area were severely hiindled and repulsed. "Between July 1 ant! September 30 we captured 29 heavy guns and heavy howitzers, 92 Held guns and field howitzers, 103 trench artillery pieces, and 397 machine-guns." ... * ' ' . FRENC4 OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE London, October 5. A French official .communique .states: "The night was calm on the whole -front.
