DANCE AT FEATHERSTON CAMP
OPENING OF NEW MESS. The officers attached to the Featherston Camp gavo a very onjoyablo dance oil Monday evening last to celebrate I tho opening of the now mess just completed, and now ready for their use. 'Ihe building had been tastefully decorated for the occasion, and presented an altogether charming ■ apjiearance. Trco ferns and nikau palms had been freely used, with kowhai blooms and mies showing up against the dark background, and the soft light -ironi. tho pink-shaded lamps produced a very restful effect. 'About one hundred and twenty couples attended tho dance, and were received by Mrs. Adams, the wife of tho Commandant, in tho ante-room. The floor left nothing to be desired, and dancing was kept up until an early hour. Among those present were: Lieutenant.-Col-onel N. P. Adams, N.Z.F.A., Camp Commandant,, and Mrs. Adams, Colonel and Mrs. Bey, Major Newcomb, M.S.C., Major and Mrs. Neave, Major and Mrs. Cardale, Majors Guniij, N.Z.M.0., Barton, Sweetzer, and Batten, Captains Bell (Camp Adjutant, Trentbam), Nicholls (Trentbam), Bradloy, R.N.Z.A., Taylor, and Abbott, Dr. and Mtb. Palmer, the matron _ and nurses of tho Featherston Hospital, the matron aiid nurses of tho Greytown Hospital, Mesdames W. and It. Barton, Beetham (3), Btdwell (2), Jackson (Masterton), and Tringham, the Misses Bey, Palmor, Lott (Mastcrton), Macrae, Martin, Fenwick, M. Biss, Hilford, Nelson, Kiely, and Card, and Messrs. Hornsby, M.P., Booth, W. is " ® a ' icr ) a "d Quentin Donald. At supper time the guests, headed by tho Featherston M.C. Trumpet Band, marched to the Soldiers' Club, where a dainty supper had been prepared by the canteen staff. Tho Trumpet Band .also rendered selections during supper. The dance music was provided by. tho Featherston Military Camp Band, and reflected crcdit on Sorgeaut-Major Wicks and liis men.
