MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The Wellington City Council met last evening. There were present: Tho Mayor "(Mr. J. P. Luke), Councillors &.: Frost, J. E. Fitzgerald, W. T. Hildreth, R, A. Wright, A. Veiteh, T.'Bush, M. F. Luckie, W. H. Bennett, W. J. Thompson, A. R.'tAkinson",* J.'Huteheson, J. Godber, and.L. M'Kenzie. An extension of tho sewerage.system to servo a number of sections at a Kilbirnie Estate was authorised at an estimated cost of £245. • . . . ■'• The Wellington Boys' Institute was granted permission to advertise in the tramway waiting-sheds, free of charge, for a terra of sis months, the permission to bo reviewed at the end of such period. . A renewed application for tho erection of street lamps in Williams.Street, Wadestown, was not granted, in view of the traffic in tho street not warranting the espouse, and also because of the scarcity of electrical supplies. Permission was granted for the erection of a. temporary wooden building adjoining the St. Joseph's Church, Bucklo Street, subject to the usual conditions, and also subject,to certain structural alterations required by tho City.Engineer. ~.'.'„.. .. ," The name of "Ohiro Road" is to bo affixed to that portion of the' road running from; Ar'o Street to Cleveland Street, and the balance of the road from Clovoland Street to Ohiro Bay, is to be called' "Happy Vftlley Road," the coiincit undertaking to. re-number the houses from Tanera Crescent North, to Cleveland Street. • The City Engineer was authorised to roughly form a'footpath, opposite the now sohool at Arawa Road. Hataitai, at an estimated cost of £12,. the permanent kerbing and channelling to be completed at a later date.' ,' > . It was decided that an application for the formation and grading of Rodrigo Road should be not acceded to at present. ',-,'., Authority was granted for the, service of notices upon owners of property at Dorking Road and Connaught .Terrace, Brooklyn, calling upon them to pay their contributions towards tho cost of forming these streets, as provided hv the Wellington City Street Act, 1909. Tho council decided that Mr. C. Gilbert, 1.F.5., should be thanked for his efforts to procure a pair of tiger cubs for the Wellington Zoo, and informed that after the termination of the war negotiations for the purchase of a pair wdl bo reopened. The Lands and Survey Department is to be informed that the council will bo prepared to accept tho control and maintenance of the Otari Scenio Reserve (Wilton's Busli) upon tho Government transferring the property to tho Corporation. . The question of the reconstruction of tho damaged sea wall at Day's Bay beach was postponed till next - year. The proposal to form a roadway and construct a footpath at the intersection of Northland and Kaupapa Roads on a small piece of land granted to the council free of cost by tho St. Anne's Church Trustees, Northland, was agreed to.
