LAND FOR RETURNED SOLDIERS
, THE SEAFORTH SETTLEMENT YESTERDAY'S BALLOT By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, October 5. At tho meeting of the Canterbury ■Land Board to-day, Mr. George Ross, of Washdykc, tho vondor of the Sealortli -Settlement, which has been purchased by tho Government for tho purpose of settling returned soldiers on wfc land, informed tho Board that he would waive half the cost of the growing wheat crop on the estate, and throw in tho growing oat crop as a Tree gift to discharged soldiers who might take up the land. As there are about eighty-five acres in wheat, and between fifty and sixty acres in oats, this is a very ■"handsome gift to tho return/id men who get tho sections. H, Stonyer, land and estato agent, of Timaru, who acted as agent in tho buying of a section at Rosobauk for L. Bennett, a discharged soldier, notified that ho would make,a free gift to the transferee of the' commission earned iu tho transaction, to enable the soldier to get a better start. Tho Tiallot for sections in the Sea-foi-tli Settlement was held to-day, at Hid Board's office. Four soldiers applied for sections, and three were allotted, one being held over for further consideration. Tho sections were allotted to James Fitzharris (section 2). who was examined in hospital at ; William Morgan (section 7), now on the staff of the Christchurch 'Iraniway Board; and Thomas C. R-ad-fcrd (section 8), of Tcmuka, this last approved conditionally. The application of E. M. Gibson, now a" lettercarrier, was held over for further consideration.
