— -♦: WHY' THE TEOHNICIL SCHOLARS ./.MOVE ON. s Iu .yesterday's Dominion it was rewrtod that the corporation was about :o resume tho use of part of an old workshop which for some timo has been, it the' disposal of tho Technical School. The matter was mentioned to ;he Mayor (Mr. J. P. Luke) yosterky, and lie gave the reason for the .. ;orporation's action. Mr. Luke, said that'the corporation is adding to its plant byway of motor lire engines, and also motor vehicles in connection with its paroels delivery services.' Housing will bo required for' theso vehicles, and also for the corporation motor-cars. Tho workshop capacity is, so small that there is no room to bring the cars in in their proper order.. for overhaul or minor repairs. ■ A great deal of the work has to bo performed' in the open, where it cannot bo done so well or as cheaply is undercover. Also, the machines are delayed from being available for service. .. It is absolutely necessary that the corporation should obtain better workshop and garage accommodation. The building referred to is just at the back of .tho Town Hall in ;i yard, n' large portion of which, together with some bruldings, has' been used for some time by .tho Technical School. The Corporation will endeavour to carry on for, somo time after taking only a portion of'the workshop back from tho school, but it will not bo long before the whole of the building is required, and tho Mayor hopes that tho Technical Education Board will mako arrangements accordingly. Tho school has had the' use' of the workshop at tho pleasure of tho council, and tho Mayor regrets'that it is necessary to tako steps to disturb them.
