DISCHARGED SOLDIERS
( . THE WEEKLY STATEMENT. The following progress statement of the work of the Discharged Soldiers' Information Department as at October 3 has been issued by the Minister in Charge (the Hon. A. L. Hefdman) :— \ Total number of men on register: (A) Disposed of, '4542; (B) Tinder action, 695; (0) not ready for action (including men returned by recent transports), 458. T0ta1—5695. , Particulars showing how cases dealt with :— (A) Cases-disposed of: (a) Men who havo work to return to, and men who have re-enlisted or returned to military duty, etc, 1850; (b) men placed in employment, 1064; (c) men who havesigned' "Assistance-\ not required," 1035; (d) loft Now Zealand or cannot ascertain address, 142; (e) men who have.not responded to repeated communications, and men who have accepted work tho Department found for them, but failed to start work, 315: (f) men who have drawn sections of land, 136. TotaJ—4s42. (B) Cases under action: (a) Roports upon cases not yot returned by officersmaking inquiries, 104'; (b) awaiting further advice (including men who havo stated that they aro not yet ready for work), 355-; (c) at present on "Employment Wanted" Register, 236 Total—69s.
(C) Oases not ready for action: Men convalescing, not Teady for employment, and not yet discharged by the military authorities, 458. Grand total— 5695.
