LACK OF ROOM
FOE CITY TECHNICAL STUDENTS.
Lack of accommodation at tho Wellington Technical. School lias been written .of and spoken about time and again, and now it seems thai the working space is io bo still further reduced, for the Technical Education Board has received the following letter from tho secretary of. tlio Wellington Education Board (Mr; G. t..Stewart)
"I beg to inform you that "to-day (October 3), the Mayo.- and tho City Engineer called to inform tho board that the growing requirements of the motor department compel the City Corporation to resume, very reluctantly, as . they stated,- possession of the old workshop. ■ Tho- matter was [discussed- on the ground with the clerk of works, and we are satisfied that the corporation has, owing to tho known needs of-the Technical School, refrained from making this ,application .until the 'officers , aro performing .thoir. duties, in tho. department I'oferrod to, under conditions of serious inconvenience, arid .as .I freely admitted- that we- had no claim to tho building, and even ii cursory .'inspection satisfied me of thoir great need,. I, intimated, >fter di'scussion with'tlie chairman, that we should at : once relinquish possession! Tho Mayor and' City Engineer kindly agreed to. forego possession of one Half of the workshop for a little time, but it is clearlynecessary that - it': should bo lia'ndod over .to-them'without long delay, arid I think it is likely also that the -cookery room will, in a short time, also be 'required. The board is tiieroforo underithe immediate.necessity of providing, before * AVediiesda'y week, cover for tho three bicycles which have hitherto been accommodated in the part to he resumed by the corporation, and! of ! finding, in ••tho- rear future., workshop accommodation for its building department. "Your managers aro awaro of tho reasons which have hitherto dotorred my- board, from urgent pressure -on them for a. larger share of the building, hut it ivill be evident from even a brief consideration of the above facts that tho need of the board is becoming more urgent than ever. Tho matter is submitted for tho consideration of your managers." Last evening tho Technical Education Board received the letter, and do-, cided to consider it. . Someone suggested that' the board had bettor keen on doing that as lung as possible..
