Appreciative Letters From Soldiers. Ono of.tho workers at tho Town Hall ■ has received fully twenty letters from Soldiers at the front, in answer to the cards whioh she had inserted in parcols that, had been packed and forwarded from tho Countess of Liverpool Fund Committee to the front. One of tho writers prefaces 'his remarks by saying that "0110 of our _boys gave mo a card that ho found in his p'arcol. Being a marriod man lie thought it would be a fair thing to let a single man writo to • you, 'is there was not any address in the parcel that I got." Ho tihen proceeds to tell her various experiences in Egypt and _in France, where, at tho time of writing, ho liad been for four months, and ended with the warmest thanks for the gifts which had boon sent. Another "soldier writes.: "Will, you giye mine and all the others' kind regards to all the people of Now Zealand' who aro .working so hard to send us gifts, and let them know." we. are receiving them all right?" In ono and all the letters the same great appreciation of these gift parcels, and of %) ikought and work which lay' behind them was shown by the. writers. "It goos without saying," statos a soldier, "that tlie'hoys were both surprised and delighted this morning (July 7) when the various packages. were dealt out. I can tell you they were appreciated. I am sure you all work very hard and spend no end of time and trouble making up these parcels. I am in tho' snipers with pur battalion and all the boys in the section told 'me to thank: you very much." Ho goes, on to "tell his correspondent that ho ivas in Alexandria, Cairo, and Heliopolis for somo time, then up.through tho Senußsi campaign at Matruli, .back to Alexandria and tho Suez Canal -for a few weeks, then finally to France. .'.'lt is not .so bad, hut sometimes I think how -grand it would bo to he back in A r cw. "I have just got' your pares!.- It ft,mo as a Gbdsond as we have heen in tie 1 tranches . for a long while now, and havo lived upon stQW. You cm imagine how I felt when this winie." In the opinion - of'another '■oldior, '"the girls hero aro very good looking and good sports, but they do r.ot ccmo up to the colonial girls." Another soldier says: "Yes, tho parcels wero actually ' given out in tho front lino of trenches, just sixty yards away from tho Hun trenches, wliero my company is at present fighting. The death is announced at HongKong, of' Mrs. Lack, wife of Mr. Stewart Lack, of the Eastern Extension Cable Company's staff.
