Ihc. Burke Cup .ladies' competition [ (approaching and .putting) took place on .the Johnsonville Golf Club's links [on Saturday afternoon. Xhe cup was won by Mrs. F.' Buddie. When tho members assembled in the golf house a presentation was made to Mr. i\ Buddie, who is about .io take up his residenco in Auckland. Mr. Buddie has.-given much time and attention to tho improvement of the links aud tho general welfare of the club. A chequo had been handed to Mr. Buddie, in order that ho might select his own present. He contented liimsolf with a golf-bag, as a memento of his connection with tho club, and with tho remainder of the money he purchased a solid, silver rosp bowl, which ho presented to the club as the prize for tho 'ladies' annual championship competition, tho Vinner each year to have her namo' engraved upon it. Tho first name-to bo placed on tho cup is that of Mrs. Buddie, the winner for the •present season. A Belgian Afternoon. A Belgian afternoon'was held by the Jphnsonvillo Golf Club on Saturday. _ It proved a very enjoyable Junction, and met with hearty support. Tea and cakes were provided by Mesdames ■ »ajlis- and Morgan. The entrnnco tees for the Burke Cup competition ; were given to the fund, and sweets and lloivers wore sold. Altogether ' the sum of £2 10s. was realised. Upper Hutt Orphanage. Jho committee which managed the recent social and sale of work held in the Town Hall Concert Chamber recently, in aid of the Roman Catholic Orphanage at Upper Hutt, went out to the institution on Sunday afternoon for the purpose of presenting the proceeds to Mother Mary Ambrose. Tho party were entertained at afternoon tea. Mr. Burko (the secretary) presented Mother Mary Ambrose 'with a cheque for £228, for which she expressed Lor hearty thanks, and called upon tho treasurer (Sir. Levin) to return thanks. The visitors were then shown over the Orphanage, and wera much impressed by the happy and healthy appearance of the two hundred children. Countess of Liverpool Fund. A. report of her- tour of the country districts, mads in connection with the Christmas gift .parcels for. the men at the front, was presented by Mrs. Luke, who stated that sho bad met with warm support in practically every place sho visited. Some, indeed, wero particularly enthusiastic, and sho could .not but regard tlie tour as having been very satisfactory in its results.
