SCOOL LIBRARIES AND LECTURES

: 4 Yesterday afternoon, at the Newtown Library, Colonel Esson, C.M.G., gave a lecture to tho Sixth Standard pupils of the city schools, the title of the "lecture being '-'New Zealand to Franco via Gailipoli."' The lecturer took the children with the Main Expeditionary Force, .and described in a most graphic manner the meeting with the Australian transports, and later the fight, between the Sydney and tho Emden. Our troops' life at Egypt was detailed, and also tho fighting they had there; then came the famous landing at the Dardanelles, and the lecturer then took tho children on to Malta, and thence to Franco. Tho lecture was the first of a series which is being arranged by Mr. Perry, who ■lias charge of tho schools department of tho public library, and_ the lectures are for the purpose of stimulating interest in the museum, and also_ In the libraries which the city authorities loan to the schools. Mr. R. A. "Wright, M.P., chairman of tho Library Committee, was in the chair. Mr. Parkinson, of tho Newtown District High School, expressed the thanks of tho scholars, and also of the various headmasters who were present.
