DECISION OF GREECE AWAITED
INTRICATE AND CONFUSED SITUATION KING WILL APPROVE 'GREECE-.JOINING THE ENTENTE . 'Aualralian-Now-Zeelaßd O&blo Ajeociatlon,' London, September 28. The decision of Greece is hourly awaited. The latest message describes the situation as-intricate-and confused, and adds that it is rumoured in- Athens that King Constantine has departed, but of this there is no confirmation. Another dispatch quotes the-"Neue Freie Pres.se," of Vienna, declaring that King Constantine is going to Constantinople forthwith, and is not relinquishing his throne, but choosing banishment rather than break his promise to the Kaiser not to allow war to bo declared against Austria and Germany. The majority, of the messagos, however,. suggest that King Constantine will remain at Athens and approve Greece joining the Entente. Pressure in that direction is increasing daily. General Moschopoulos, accompanied by Generals Cellaris and Gennadis, on Saturday submitted a memorandum to King Constantine. General Moschopoulos. not receiving a reply,-resigned. — King'Constantino immediately summoned him, and he againplaced his views before tho King, who aunouuccd that he was then considering a change .in policy. General Moschopoulos informed the' Premier that ho did not insist 011.his resignation being accepted, but preferred" to "await tho realisation of the King's assurances. • , There wore no further developments until Tuesday, when General Moschopoulos and four other Generals again urged on King Constantino tho necessity for the immediate abandonment of neutrality. ■■■ . General Moschopoulos, on behalf of tho Third Army Corps,,sent a messago to King Constantine, givingtho opinion' that intervention alone would savo Grceco. _ , Many officers continuo to leave for Salonika, where the Committee of National Defence meets under Admiral Condouriotis. Many recruits joined the National Army at Salonika. On "Wednesday. 146 Greek, officers signed a proclamation which ..was : distributed on Wednesday calling upon the army to save <tho honour of Greece. "Range yourselves under the standards of the Army of. National Defence, and swear vengeance for the invasion of Macedonia. Never bo described as traitors. Greece will bo grateful." CONSTANTINE ADVISED TO ABANDON NEUTRALITY. New York* September 28. Generals Colloris, -Gennadis, Moschopoulos-, Yannakitsas, and Popoulos had an audience with King Constantine, and - advised- the King to abandon neutrality, in order to avoid a catastrophe. It is roported that the King is signing a general mobilisation order, and is in favour of joining tho Entente." SUCCESS OF THE REVOLUTIONARIES IN CRETE. . '' . ' Canea (Crete), September 28. Tho only resistance to the revolution was by the anti-Venizellst citizens of Heraction. A few were killed and wounded in two days of lighting. Half the_ officers and almost the whole of -tho-14th Infantry Regiment at Canea joined the revolution. 1 Twenty-two Royalist officers and nineteen men took refuge in the officers quarters, and secured the protection of the British and French Consuls from revolutionaries. A great meeting requested M. Venizolos and M. Condouriotis to form a Provisional Government. M. Veuizelos accepted.
