Some idea of tho quantities of fertilisers imported into New Zealand may be gained from the fact that since the war began 36,000 tons of ground raw phosphate has been received from Ma~ katea Island, and 4000 tons from Ocean Island. This would represent a total of over 70,000 tons of manufactured superphosphate if it were all turned 1 into this fertiliser, but a portio not tho phosphate is used as a base for other manures. About three-quarters of the imported phosphate from the i sources mentioned was landed at the ! Port of Auckland. —"N.Z.
