The "Daily Chronicle's" correspondent at 'Athens states that King Constantino has opened-communications with M. Venizelos. ■ M.- VENIZELOS EXPLAINS HIS ATTITUDE. ("Tho Times.") , ' London, September 27. Prior to leaving Athens, M. Venizelos made a special statement to "The Times" representative. He. announced that 1 he was going to the Greek Islands to lead the movement against tAe Bulgarian invaders who were overrunning Greek Macedonia, maltreating, taking prisoner,. and murdering unprotected Greeks, whom the Greek Army had left at their meTcy. - He could no longer resist the cry of his compatriots, who wore calling upon him to save thorn. He had recently sent n message to King Constantino urging t3ie rcscue of these Greeks, and offering to retire if it woald make the path' easier. M. Venizelos said he hesitated taking this supremo step until lie was convinced that those now controlling tho policy of Greece did not intend to aim and drive out tho enemy. The patriotic movement was not intended against the King or tho dynasty, hut was 'made by tihose who were unable longer to,stand aside, and also as the last effort they could make to induce the King to come forth as King of the Hellenes and follow the path of duty in protecting his subjects. M. Venizelos feels sure he can count on the good will of tho free English people in the mission lie is now setting out to accomplish-. The movement he and General Coiidouriotis are leading was purely national. He had! exhausted all legal means to secure integral national action.
