PULPIT CALL TO FIGHT ON
A SPIRITED ADDRESS. By Telesrapli-Press Association-Copyright (Reci September 27, 9.45 p.m.) Sydney, September 27. The Rev. Ronald Macintyre lias been elected Moderator of- the Presbyterian General Assembly of Australia. His address to the Assembly was a clarion call for courage and sacrifice. The Empire,V he said,_ "must not sheath, the sword till a victory has been achieved 'thait will free' future generations of impending horrors of war, and the world from the burden and despotism of' a. depraved militarism. Australia will stand by that cause to the end. It may impoverish the ' country and . make greater demands upon its manhood, but not a man who takes the privilege .of Australian citizenship has a right to refuse Australia's call. It will not be enough for -this wild dog of Europe to be chained to his kennel. We must prevent the madness of war, ■ and make it impossible for emperors and kings to plunge their people into the horrors oi war without their constitutional consent. No nation will be permitted to' go to war as a preliminary to arbitration." ■ _ The Assembly . adopted ,a . mo- ' tioiiv' expressing 'its''"" firm jbeliof in 'the righteousness of; the Allied cause) and deoided to support the Government in whatever measures were necessary .to , successfully conduce the war. _ During the debate Professor 'Angus and others severely oriticised the silence of certain neutrals. The Rov. '.Mr. Gibson said that the 'American eagle posed before the ; world as a rooster on the dunghill' of • its own self-interests. •
