OUR SOLDIERS AT THL FRONT

CHRISTMAS GIFTS. What is the reason for the efforts being made by all the ladies, TTeaded by the Mayoress, aaid the men of the sports bodies? This is tho reason explained shortly to the public. It has been decided that every one of our boys is to receive a small remembrance at Christmas timo, and the committee have to see that this is doine. Tho ladies at the Town Hall arc working, as it has lately been discovered they can work, and it is up to tho men round town to patronise, as far as means allow, the efforts made to provide support for this fund. When every citizen recognises that our iboys, 'doing such great work for us at tho front, will receive something to show our lovo and recognition, surely no further appeal is necessary. Tho various schemes inaugurated includo a great feto nt tho Basin Reserve on Saturday, October 7. Poultry scheme—Appealing especially to country residents. Bottlo scheme —Appealing to the school children. Marblo Bar—Friday afternoon next, appealing to everyone; all takings given to this fund. His Worship tho Mayor will perform the opening ceremony, and an efficient orchestra will provide music.
