Sir Archibald Murray (who was Com-mandor-in-Ohief in the Eastern Mediterranean), in a dispatch dated' June 1, gives details of the reorganisation of tho Dardanelles army and tho reequipment of the Australians and New Zealanders. It states that the training of tho Australian reinforcements took place at Tel-el-Kebir, until the Anzac training depots wero transferred to England. Tho Turks, prior to March, had 250,000 troops ready for an attack on the Canal, but after the capture of Erzcrum the garrisons in Syria- wero reduced t0'60,000. Tho Second Australian and New Zealand Army Corps came into existence on March 27, npider tho command of General Godloy. It consisted of Major-General Cox's Fourth Division, Major-General M'Cay's Fifth Division, and MajorGcnoral Ohaurel's Anzac Mounted Division. The Army Corps assisted in patrolling the western front. Tho Ninth Australian Light Horse, under Major Scott, mado a successful reconnaissance of . Jifjaffa from April 11 to 15. Tho operation was most- creditable to all ranks. Tho Fifth Australian Light Horse assisted in the pursuit of the Turks at El Kantara on April 23. During May reconnaissances were frequent on the oast front, whero threo brigades of Anzac mounted'men, including tho New Zealand Mounted Rifles, wore present, and) tlioy proved a unit which could be absolutely depended upon, and displayed energy, resource, aud enduranco. Sir Archibald Murray recommends tho following to notice: —General Birdwood', General Godley, Major-General Cox, Major-General M'Oay, and MajorGeneral Chauvol. _ Lieut.-Colonel C. Richardson, of the New Zealand Staff, is recommended for good service with tho Salonika army.
