THE GREEK CHAOS
DRAMATIC MOVE BY VENIZELOS The* course of events since tlio beginning of July, when- the great offensive on the Somme was launched, has developed in series i —first, a violent artillery Wast, then an advance, then a lull; then ones again the blast from the guns, a fresh advance, and another lull. There has heen a lull at tho beginning of 'the week. Yesterday the guns were again reported to be cannonading in a terrific concert.- To-cfoy we have great news—a simultaneous and brilliant • advance by the French and the British', ■ the capture of strongly-de-fended works, and the .practically complete isolation of Combles—all this at a comparatively small cost as regards casualties. A new offensive, also, has heen launched by the Allies in the Balkans, on the Fiorina front, where several important positions have been captured. The Bulgar-Gennan menace in the Dobruja has disappeared, and the pressure is now being applied from the Kusso-Rumanian side. In Greece, a new aspect is lent to the chaotic state of affairs by the aotion of M. Yenizelos in placing himself at the head of the Greek national movement, which has for its object the enforcement of the people's will in tho conduct of national policy as opposed to the machinations of the pro-German clement beliind King Oonstantine. The whole of Crete is in revolt against Greece. \ -
