CONCERT AND SWIMMING CARNIVAL.
-4 The heats in connection with the races confined to members of iho Boys' Institute were swum off at tho Public Tepid Swimming Baths on Saturday 'evening. Tho semi-finals and finals will be contested at the carnival to be hold the tho baths on Tuesday and Wcdncs- 1 day next, September 26 and 87. The following wero tho results:— 331-3ydu. 'Also started: E..Thornhill, G. Latham, G. Hill, and It. Arnold. Mth heat: 11. Anderson, a bye. The Diving Competition, which was open to all boys, took place. Sonic of jfhc divers bid> fair to excel in tho art. The following wore the winners:—W. Thomas, 1; A. Thomson, 2; F. Mumford, 3. Also competed: A. Boss, H. Anderson, S. Dempster, 0. Rusterholz. E. Thornhill. Arrangements in connection with tlio Concert Carnival are how well in hand. Tho concert part of the programme promises to be very attractive. On Tuesday evening, tho following artists will participate :—Miss Janio 'Petrio (elocutionist), Messrs. Hamilton Hodges, Hugh Wright, and George Peek (humorist). The accompanist will bo Mr. Kerry, the organist of St. Jolui's Presbyterian Church. The Mission Band will he in attendance. On AVcdnesday, Mrs. H. F. Wood (contralto), Miss E. Smith (contralto), Miss E. Churchill (elocutionist), Messrs. H. F. Wood (tenor). W. W. Crawford (humorist), and Master Winston McCarthy), the juvenile impersonator of Harry Lauder will appear; accompanist, Miss L. Caddiek. The 'Tramway Band will render selections. On both ovenings tlio'latter part of the programme will be a swimming carnival, when somo keen races.are anticipated. A clown should keep tlio merrimout in full swing and somo pretty electrical effects should complete a'good night's enjoyment. ,-.
