' Tho City Council has received the. following report from the City Engin- . eo'r with reference'' to the. supply of cast-iron pipes:— ; ' '" , "For-tho information of the council I have-to report, that the manager of Messrs. Briscoo and Company lias informed mc, through Mr. Morice, that there is very little chance of any waterpipes being obtained from the shipment which went down in the Rangatira near Capo Town, but there is a slight possibility of thero being some on the lonic, which is due here in about four Ho also informs mo that thero is no chance of repeating the order, as the export of castiron pipes from Great Britain is prohibited. , i "This latter information is in accordance with newspaper reports, and is confirmed by Messrs. Duthie and Co. . "If it should happen that no pipes aro ayailablo by the lonic, I have to suggest that inquiries, be made from firms in Australia who cngngo in this trade, and who supply similar pipes m tho various- States of Australia. At tins present time there, are only 900 feet of -1-inch pipes in stoek for all extensions wliich might bo required during tho coming summer when tho demand is the greatest. If only a limited supply were obtained from Australia | it may help to lido over tho present | difficulties.'"- '
