Tho Huddart-Parker Company advise that the Rivcrina sailed from Sydney on Thursday at noon, and, with a favourable run, should reach hero early on Monday morning. She has 89 passengers and 1457 tons of cargo for discharge here. The cargo includes 49 motor cars, about 29,000 feet of timber, 50 tons superphor.phates, and 600 sleepers. She will leave here on Tuesday at 5 p.m. for south, and will bo duo back on Thursday, ana will sail at 5 p.m. the same day for Sydney and Hobart. NIKAU DELAYED. Messrs. Bannatyne and Co. advise that, owing to the troops marching through tho oity to-day, tho departure of tho Nikau for Nelson has been postponed .till ■ 5 p.m. to enable the passengers to witness tho parade. ■ . " AKITA MARU FROM JAPAN IN POUT. An arrival of more than' usual interest yesterday was that of the Aklta.'Moru, from Japan, via Sydnoy. Sho berthed at the Glasgow.-Wharf at about 1.30 p.m., and commenced unloading almost immediately. Captain Tanaka is in charge of tlio vessel, and sho is manned entirely by Japanese, many of whom, howover, speak English. . , Tho Akita Maru has the distinction of being tho first of tho Nippon Yuson Kaisna vosscls to come 'to New Zealand, i but it is,expected to establish, a direct liuo from Japan shortly, l Sho was only launched a few. months ago from the yards of tho Mitsui Bishi dockyards and engine works of Japan. Sho Is a vessel of 3792 tons gross register, and. is registered at Tokio. Her principal dimensions arc:-Leugth 345 ft., breadth 50ft., and depth 29ft. She Is fitted with all the latest devices to Bcouro facility iu tho handling of cargo. Her cargo for New Zealand amounts to 2323 tons, and Includes 13,776 paokages. Her first appearance was off tho Heads at 11 a.m. yesterday, and in response to signals Captain Davies, of the pilot staff, went aboard. The vessel is only visiting Wellington this trip, and leaves on Tuesday for Port Pirio and Melbourne, and thence on to Japan again. Advice has been received' that the steamer Vermont (4271 tons. Captain Gemmell), which left New York for New Zealand, via Panama, on. August' 23, loft Balboa on Soptember 7, and will bo duo in Auckland about October 7 and at Wellington on October 13. She has 1100 tons of cargo to discharge here, and thon goes on to Dunedin and finally Australian ports. The vessel is one of the fifteen vessels purchased a few months ago by the Australian Government, and was bought for £110,000. \ ' ■ ; From London tho liner Port Napior (10,641 tons, Captain Compton) arrived in Sydney on Thursday morning. She will leave Sydney on September 28 for Auckland, where she is due on October 3. After oalling at Napier she should arrive i in Wellington f about October 11. A very smart fun was put lip by the I Ngakuta, during tho last few days. She left hero on Tuesday at 5 p.m., and reached Greymouth on Wednesday evening. Sho loaded 2000 tons on Thursday, and, leaving late on Thursday night,, arrived in Wellington yesterday and commenced unloading by 7.30 p.m. She will not leave south until Monday night. The Wootton, which left here yesterday for Lyttclton, ehould be back on Sunday, and will sail again on Monday for the southern port. Mr. 0. Stevens, third mate on tho Maori, has gone off on t sick leave. Mr. W. A. Gray, late second officer on tho Maori, has joined the Taknpiina as first officer. The Paloona left Lyttelton last evening, and is due this morning. She will sail on Monday for Melbourne dircc*. The Kowhai leaves Gisborne to-night, and Is due on Sunday evening. She leaves here for Dunedin, Timami, and Bluff on Monday. The Ifapourika left 'Westport yesterday morning at 8 o'oloek, and is due here this afternoon, via Nelson. The Karoo left at 6 o clock, and will be duo hero this morning. . \ ■ Chief Officer J. Smith, of tho Northern Company's steamer. Manaia, has been appointed captain of the same company a steamer Waipu. Captain Bettis, of the Warm;, has been appointed master of tho Hauitl. The Government steamer Hlnemoa has now finished her trip round tho northern lighthouses and harbours, and tele-, graphic advice was received last evening that 6he had left Onehunga at 5.45 a.m. for Wellington, «und had passed Manukau Heads at 7 a.m., bound for Wellington. The Defender arrived in Lyttelton; late on Wednesday nicrht with a full cargo of timber from Hokitika, via Westport. Tlio Cygnet was at that time on tho slip,, but it was expected that she would be tnkeii off' -yesterday afternoon, and : the Defender will probably go 'on this morning for annual overhaul. The Union Company's Arahura arrived in Auckland on Wodnesdny, two days early. This wne to enablo her to go into dock for engine-room ropo-iTs. Sho is to sail' this afternoon for Tokomaru Bay, Gisborno, and Napier. Tho Auckland-owned scow Arrah NaPoiriie is now about 32 • days out from' , Wellington to Hokianga. The last heard of her was from tho coast near Blenheim, whero sho wa's sheltering from tho heavy, weather which, was met shortly after leaving Wellington .for Holdangn.. It is understood that ill* schooner Morning Light, which was sold somo timo ago for work at Wawranul, is to have engines fitted. in her. Tho vessel is at present lying alongside tho lower breastwork at Lyttelton.
