The time has now arrived,, and- the New Zealand Govern- - ment makes the same appeal to every eligible man, and the law now is:— "Every employer is guilty- of an -offence if he employs a shirker. That being tho case, I now ask your permission to put this question to stewards' and committee men of every ricing and trotting club in the Dominion: "Are they playing the game when they - continue to employ and license single eligible men? Is it honourable to the 60,000 or more brave.soldiers who have already left our shores, and generously responded to the call of. tho ' Empire? Is it just to the noble mothers and fathers of the gallant sons who have given their lives, that racing, trotting, and all other- branches of sport should tolerate and; encourago the shirkers and flackers : who are not playing' the game, and leaving tho best of our young manhood to fight for them?"—l am, etc., DISCOURAGE THE SHIRKER,
