PROBATIONARY OFFICERS
• — <y— THEIR APPOINTMENT DISCOURAGED. The- following direction appears in District Orders issued by Colonel J. E. Humo, 0:C. . Wellington District, under date August 31: — . "No officer at prosont holding an appointment (on probation) to a combatant unit will be confirmed in the appointment unless he passes the first appointment to commissions examination within, the year's probation. Such officers must also pass the 'A' examination for promotion, under similar conditions to oflicers,appointed through tho ordinary channel. The appointment of officers (on probation) to combatant units is discountenanced."
