EVIDENCE WITHHELD
OASBOE CONSTABLE MOLONEY. " : if:..-;■ - The Royal Commission, consistingiof jbr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., chairman, Mr. /lerbert Orowther,. and Inspector Norwood, which was set up to inquire 'into certain charges of misconduct which led to the dismissal of Constabl Peter Moloney from the Police Force, has furnished its report to His Excellency tho Governor. The'finding of the Commission was'as follows:— • "After hearing the evidence we are of opinioii that the. said Peter Moloney was not guilty of the charge so alleged against, him. The'only presumption of . guilt on his part was contained in the ' faot .that during:the Departmental inquiry before Inspector Phair, Moloney refused to submit to the, jurisdiction of that tribunal or to take any steps to establish his innocence, because he considered, quite wrongly in our opinion, that Inspector' Phair ' was biased against him, and on that account he demanded another tribunal to try him, and went so far as to deliberately suppress evidence that, if produced there and then, would have completely established his innoeonoo of the/charge against him.. This conduct.was highly reprehensible, and besides has been tho cause of great trouble and misunderstanding to all concerned." The case of this police constable was mentioned in the House on many ;occasi/ns, and as the outcome of repeated demands a Commission was set up. It was alleged against Moloney that he drew.from th&.Qovernment moneys for certain Wvrcei" which-ho alleged he, had paid for,, when' in. fact ho had hot paid to have them done. On this charge he was dismissed from the service. The Commission finds that he was not guilty of this charge:
