CRICKET ASSOCIATION
4 FINANCE CAUSING CONCERN*. Tho annual report of the Wellington Cricket Association, which will be presented at .the annual meeting on Wednesday next, states th'it the past season 1 was naturally a quite one. 'Ike association was thoroughly in accord with ths ; decision of tho N.Z. Council not to play; any representative fixtures during the course, of the-wary and, consequently i»> such matches werq arranged. The, seu- ; son, was Opened with a match between! ■ the-Wellington eleven [and a-team'select-" ed from' the soldiers in- camp at Trentham and Feathcrsto i for the benefit of the GallipoliChristi"'',.■.-Gift Fund, collected by the amateur apojts bodies. Tlia match resulted in the sum of .£59 13s. ; ' Bd. being handed over to the Fund. The competitions did not arouse so much/ interest as usual, but some very goudi games were played. . The • East Club, which had an unbeaten record for the greater part of the season, succeeded ire carrying off the senior championship. Tho junior championship was won by the Boys' Institute Old Boys after a playoff with 'the Petone Juniors. Owing to the very limited number of entries, the third class. championship could not be piaveel in two divisions (city and. saburban), as in the previous year, .and tni old system was resorted ■.- to. Petous proved the winners. The financial posi. tion of the association has occasioned the committee much concora dunnji tka year. All the clubs.havo'sufferal from much-depleted memberships, owing to enlistments, and have experienced difficulty in paying their dues. Most t>f the clubs havo fulfilled their obligations to the association; but, unfortunately, some are still much in arrears. Cricketers have responded splendidly to ttio oall for men, and all cluV* have supplied their quota of recruits. It remains for those who- are necessarily left behind to make every effort to keep the o-nmo »oing, and to assist both on nnd off the field as far as lies in their power. Mr F. M. Martin, who did good work for soveral years as lion, .treasurer of the association, left New' Zealand with' the Ninth Reinforcement*. Before ms departure, members of the committee took tho opportunity of making him a presentation, and of expressing their .best wishes for his welfare. The thanks of tho association aro due to the umpires who acted during the season, and to hou, members for their continued support.
