On Saturday evening last at tho Brooklyn Harriers' Rooms, about 35 officers and members of the Head Centro gathered to bid farewell to Lieut. J. A. Duffy and Alec H. Ross, who went into camp on Tuesday. Liout. Duffy has occupied the pesition of chief lion, instructor of tho centre for tho past two years. Mr. T. Ronayne. 1.5.0., vice-patron, who presided', in presenting Liout. Duffy with a pair of binoculars as a mark of tho esteem in which he is held by his fellow workers, referred to tho vQr.v capable and tactful services lie had rendered tho society. Messrs. G. S. Hill, W. C. Collier, and others spolco in support of the president's remarks. Mr. Rosp was also tho rccipont of a presentation, and eulogistic reference was made to his services as a mombor o? tho executivo and as secretary of tho Maranui Surf Club. Mr. E. Levy, who also went into camp on Tuesday, and several momhers of tlio local Swiinimr.g Centre, were present at the invitation of the .socicty. Among the toasts honoured were "Tho King," "Our Guests," tho "New. Zealand Amateur Swimming; Association," and the "Dominion Executive Council.' Advant-ago was taken of tho occasion to present Mr. Hill, chairman of tho centre, with tho distinguished service medal, tho highest sorvico award of the socioty, and the first in the Dominion, and Mr. W. O. Collier,, lion, secretary, with' the lion, associate certificate. Both theso officers havo been connootod in thoir respective posts with the Head Centre sir.ee its inauguration in 1910, and from tho remarks of tho president and otlior officers, wero esteemed as having justly merited the honours which headquarters had been pleased to confer.
