SCOW'S CREW MISSING
« THE MISHAP AT WHANG APA.RA. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, September 20. The scow which capsized off Whangapara is tho Vesper. She .wits on a voyago from Whangarei to Clevedon. There is no sign of tho crew of four i men, who are: G. S. Davis (captain), Leslie Craw (mate), Charles Smith (engineer), and another, whose name is unknown. The coastline is being searched for possible survivors. A tug picked up .the scow, and is towing her to Whangapara, where she will be righted and beached. The "Herald's" correspondent at Port Fitzroy telegraphed to-night .is follows:—The scow Vesper was first sighted one mile off Whangapara, bottom up, by a fisherman early on Tuesday. With help they towed tho ves* sel to Whangapara Harbour, experiencing great difficulty, as both anchors were dragging, and the sails were sot. The dinghy was missing, and there was no sign of the crew.
