MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of. tho Victoria College Council was held last night. There'wero presont Mr. Clement Watson (chairman), the Hon. A. T. Maginnity, Dr. Hector, Professor J. M. 15. Carrow, Professor Rankine Brown, Messrs. R, M'Callum, M:P.\ W. Ferguson, W. H. Morton, A. R. Atkinson, and R. A. Wright, M.P. Tho recommondation of tho Professorial Board with regard to Mr. W. Heine's thesis for tho Jacob Joseph Scholarship was agreed to, and tlie second payment for Mr. Heine was authorised. i\ letter was received from the sutwrintendont of the. fire brigade, suggesting that better appliances should ho provided for dealing with possible outbreaks of fire. Tho council decided to adopt tho recommondation of the fire superintendent. It was decided to reinvest two sums of £1000, now on fixed deposit, for terms shortly expiring, and "to invest, a further sum of £1000 from current .account for a period of two years with the Bank, of New Zealand at i per cent. Accounts for the month amounting to £9SO Us. 2d. were- passed for pavBient.
