The French Premier (Mi Briand) de-. livered an eloquent speech in the) I Chamber as the outcome of remarks by : M. Buzon, a Socialist, who had roused ' the Chamber's anger by asking whether ! France had not already suffered I enough, and whether she couldn't now. \ negotiate for peace. . ;■' M. Briand said: "Look at your coun* j try, Buzon! It has been violently at- ! tacked {or two years. It has had tha .. ■'j honour to champion the right; it has ! stayed the invader. Yet, when its 1 blood flows, you say—negotiate for j peace! What a challenge! "Whafj i. \ an outrage to the memory of our dead! Ten of our provinces have been invad« ed. Onr old men, wotxen, and children have been carried off. They, . | await deliverance, yet you ask for a, ;j peace which would bo humiliating and 1 dishonouring!" ! The Chamber accorded M. Briand an I ovation, and by 421 votes to 26 ordered j the speech to bo placarded throughout, '■•. France. j
