NOTES AND COMMENTS

!Bt Glencoe.i A final reminder is. given that acceptances for the Horowhenua Meeting .close to-night. Mentinorc, the two-year-old colt by Elysian—Lady Gwen, trained by W. M'Donald at Riccarton, has had his engagement continued in ' the , Hastings Stakes, to be. decided at the Hanvke's Bay Jockey Club's Spring Meeting. The acceptances received for tho Wanganui Meeting must be considered satisfactory. The Guineas bears an open appearance—more so than for many years past. The Chokebore colt Good Hope is generally seen at his best later on in the season, and the want of a race, combined with tho circular course, will be against Sir George Clifford's longstriding colt. A public pipe-opener will really be needed by most of the runners, as of the whole field only Elation and Bjorneborg have had a raeo this season, and in that effort neither gave the idea that they would get a mile, successfully. The field will probably contain seven runners, as Wrestler is likely to start in the Maiden Race. The defection of Xino Atua comes as a surprise, as it was understood J. M-unn was trying to get her fit for the race, but ■ evidently ho thought the San Erau filly was not ready to go a mile. Atuatora was also allowed to drop out. of his race, so the Douglas colours are not likely to be seen at the meeting. Mr. H. Coyle, handicapper to the OtakiMaori Racing Club) lias every reason to be satisfied with the'acceptances for the spring meeting, which takes place on Monday and Tuesday next. In the bigHandicap the whole of. the entrants have fctood their ground with the exception of George, who is engaged in the Flying Handicap, run.the same day. A prominent absentee from the acceptances for the Flying Handicap at Wanganui was the Winter Cup winner Cherry Blossom, The mare was taken to tho. meeting, but it is understood she lias been giving her trainer trouble since arriving there. Immediately on the publication of the acceptances lor the Wanganui Meeting, the Highdeu horse Panmure came in for strong support for the Flying Handicap, and he looks like occupying tho position of favourite to-morrow. The last time he'met Chakwana, the Trentham mare gavo him 91b., and for a narrow defeat she now meets him on -21b. better terms. If. there is anything in figures the Messrs. Riddiford's mare should again finish in front of the imported horse. Tho track at Wanganui is not likely to suit the imported liorso as well as did the long straight six furlongs at Trentham. All the leading owners, except the Messrs. Stead, are represented in the Wainganui Guineas, but outside of Good \Hope, who is a first-class colt,- whenright, the performances of the remainder tire nothing to enthuse over, and the field will not be anything like as strong as has contested the race in previous years. The Trentham contingent of horses which is to race at tho Wanganui meeting, was railed north yesterday. J. Lowo took Ohakwaua, C. Pritchard Rumania and. Rose Pink, and H. Telford Devotion, Elation, Marsinah, and Struggle. Prior to the running of the Chelmsford Stakes, in which Woorak, Ost. 111b., was narrowly defeated by Sasanof, 7st. 81b., I. Foulsham, trainer of the former, told a pressman that his Charge was ■ not as forward as ho hoped to havo him by October 2, Epsom Handicap day. .Woorak has lOst. 41b. in the big mile, and as he was in front at this point iu the Chelmsford Stakes, which was run in very fast time, it can easily bo seen that if ho can bo improved iv bit the chestnut son of Traqnair will bo very hard to beat in tho Epsom Handicap. It appears that Chortlo got left standing at tho barrier rise in tho Plimipton Handicap on Saturday. Tho Multifid golding. reached Ngatarawa yesterday, and as ho is not engaged at the Napier or Hastings Meetings "his noxt appearance will probably bo in the Champion Plato at TreiiObani. Tho following liavo been elected officers of the Taratahi-Carlerton Racing Club for tho ensuing year :—Patron, Sir Walter Buchanan, M.L.C.; pfrcsidont, -Mr. H. B. Bunny; vice-presidents, .Messrs. W. Howard Booth and James . Hoddor; lion, treasurer,, Mr. S. C. Skelley; stewards, Messrs. G. H. Eaton, W. C. Deller, W. J. Denboe, R. G. Kemble, G. Allen, and H. A. .Bunny; auditors, Messrs. J. Moncrieff and !!•. .1. Chapman.
