ANOTHER ITALIAN COUP REPORTED
Not for a long time has the British Oommander-in-Ohief in France committed' himself to such a lengthy dispatch as that which •we publish to-day from Sir Douglas Haig. But the occasion justifies this departure from the terse review of the day's operations with which the public has gradually, perforce, accustomed itself. Sir Douglas Haig tells a thrilling story, in restrained language, which 1 but thinly veils his enthusiastic pride in his army and its achievements, and incidentally bestows warm praise l on the New Zealanders, whose part in the great battle has been no small one. Mcan- . while the French, are slowly creeping up to Combles from the south. The village of Deniecourt has been encircled and captured. Away on the other side of Europe, the gallant Serbians have achieved a brilliant viotory over the Bulgars, who have boon forced to abandon ' their lines. The Serbians are now back in their own country, and within striking distance of Monastir. The Greek Cabinet has decided upon an immediate general The Russians are pressing the Austrians in Transylvania, and are moving up to Hermannstadt.; On the Italian front there is reported to have been achieved an important coup, the Austrian third line having been broken, but the ■ official communique contains no mention of the fact.
