RUSSIAN SUCCESSES IN GALICIA
ACTIVITY ON THE PINSK FRONT Anatralian-New Zealand Oabl« Association, Petrograd, September 17. A Russian official communique jstates: "After stubborn fighting on the right bank of the Zlota Lipa, southward of Brzezany, we dislodged the enemy. Fighting continues in the regions of the River Naraiovka and ths Podvysoke-Halicz railway! The enemy has already suffered great losses in killed and wounded. Gentian prisoners numbering 317-4 were taken. Snow is falling in the Carpathians. • GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. . 1 London, September 17. A German official communique states: "There is increased Russian activity on the whole of Prince Leopold's front, northward'of Pinsk. Enemy attacks were made westward of Lusk, on a front of twelvo tniles from Zaturtsky to Pastomyty. The enemy, advancing in numerous waves, completely failed and suffered most severe losses. In some places his losses wero fearful. Most vigorous attacks against General Bohm Ermolli's army between the Sereth and the Strypa, northward of ZborofF, and also attacks against General von Eb'en, broke down. The enemy's strong forces attacking the Archduke Karl upon the Marajovka were pressed back." AUSTRIAN'S CLAIM TO HAVE CHECKED THE RUSSIANS. (Rec. September 19, 1.5 a.m.) Amsterdam, September 18. An Austrian official communique states:—"The Russians made extraordinary but unsuccessful efforts to shake our allied line. Superior forces attacked south-west of Dorna Watra, between Kapul and Yzernahora, southwest of Brzezany, hut were everywhere repulsed. Numerous waves of troops, including reinforced guards, attempted a masterstroke at Lusk, but the attacks mostly broke down. Where they were successful our counter-attacks threw them out." THE RUSSIAN OFFENSIVE IN ASIA MINOR PRACTICALLY A NEW ARMY IN THE FIELD. Petrograd, Soptember 17. A. Russian official communique states: "The Turks on Saturday night attacked our advance guards at tho Kara Burna front in the direction of Esselli. They were repelled with great losses. Turkish attacks south-west of Kigbi, west of Rayat, wero unsuccessful." The Russian abandonment of Kermanshah was duo to the inlonso beat, which has now ceased. The Russians are on tho field with practically a new army, and the rccent succcsses will probably continue uninterruptedly.
