PRISONERS SENTENCED
• The following cases were heard by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M.: — Before His Honour Mr. Justice Chapman in tlic Supremo Court On Saturday the following prisoners were sentenced, Henry Denhani, who had ■ pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to a charge of theft from the person, was admitted to probation for twelve months and ordered to pay £3 towards the cost of the prosecution. Harold John Davis Barrett, who had pleaded guilty at Woodville to two charges of theft was sentenced to eighteen months' imprisonment with liard labour on each charge, the sentences to he concurrent. J. • Sentence was deferred iit the case of J. R. Wilson, who had pleaded guilty at'Marton to false.pretences. Ernest James Wilson, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment on each of three charges of .forgery and uttering at Wellington, the. terms to be concurrent. Wilson was also declared an habitual criminal. A sentence of three months', imprisonment with hard labour was imposed on David Bertie,' : who' had pleaded guilty to.having made a false declaration of 'marriage.

SATURDAY'S CASES. • Tiio following cases.were heard by Mr. D. G. A. Cooper, S.M., oil Saturday : —r _ N Ronald Poison charged with indecently assaulting a girl sixteen years of age. in the Basin Reserve, was remandI ed for a week, bail being fixed at £100, and sureties for a like amount. A seaman named Harry Ploos, employed on the Rimutaka, appeared to arfswer a charge of having used obscene language on the Queen's Wharf, and also on a charge of having assaulted a fellow-countryman—a Dutchman named John-Veld. After arrest) Ploos resisted violently, and used, the language complained of. Accused blamed Veld for tho trouble, but the latter said that Ploos started the fight. Plooa was fined 405., in default seven days' imprisonment,, on. the first charge, , and 205., .or three days' detention, 'on the second. , On the application of Chief-Detectivo Boddam. a remand was'granted Albert James Taylor, a local carrier, who was charged with tlie tlieft of llcwt. 'of copper' wire,' valued at £45, the property of tho New Zealand Government. Bail in the sum of £50, with one surety of'£so, was granted. All .the missing property has been recovered. CIVIL A'CTION. ' Before Mr. AY.. G. Riddell, S.M., hearing in the case Mrs. Mary Fabian, wife or'Chas. E. Fabian, of Tinakori Road, v. G.- C. Faclie, Commissioner of' Pensions, .was concludcd. It, was a claim for the ,sum of . £39 16s. for rent of.'ii. room, meals, and lighting. Ghai'le's-Edward Fabian' also prosecuted G. C. faclie for an alleged assault on Mary Fabian. His AVorsliip gave judgment for plaintiff for £4- 17s. 6d., in addition to £30' 2s'. paid into Court, with costs amounting to £2 13s. In roga*rd', to the charge of : assault' the .stated that as the assault was a 'f-ectraiwu one no; oonviction would !be recorded, out tho defendant would be ordered to pay complainant's costs amounting to £1 16s. Mr. O. C. Mazengarb. appeared for complainants .ind 'Mr. C. B. Morison, K.C.,.for tlie defendant.
