PETQNE'S HOLD ON THE CUP. Hie results of Saturday's Rugby matches make Po tone's hold on the championship secure. More matches have yet to be decided, but the suburban team cannot be deprived of the premier position. Petone met and defeated University at Athletic Park on Saturday. Tho game was close and interesting throughout, and at three different stages only one point separated the teams. The University team might have won, had they the combination of the dark Blues, and the same ability to make good use of opportunities. In the first spell Petone led by 6 points to nil—tries by Parker and Cowio. . Lato in tho second spell, Jackson scored for University, and Adams goaled. Petone, 6; University, 5. A fine try by Thomas, converted by Cowio, put Petono woll in advance, by 11 to 5. ' However, Jackson got over again, Adams converted, and once more only a point separated the teams. Potone, 11; University, 10. Parker added another try for Petone, and placed his side four poiirts ahead, but a try by Dickson brought ■ University for the third lime to within a point of tlieir adversaries. All depended on the kick at goal. Adams [licked just as the referee ordered "no charge," and missed. Another shot was allowed. It was a good attempt, but the ball struck the post, and dropped in-field. So Petone won by 14 to 13. Mr. R. Evensen was referee. WELLINGTON AND SELWYN'. Wellington and Selwyn drew on No. 2 ground at Athletio Park. Claridge scored a try for Wellington, and Shearer a- try for Selwyn. Both tries were obtained in the first spell.
