SYDNEY BOAT. The '.Manuka left LyWelton shortly after 6 o'clock yesterday evening, and is duo here early this morning. She will sail at 5 p.m. to-day for 'Sydney and Hobart.
AX INTERESTING LETTER. Writing under date July 30, Captain P. W. Barron, late of the To Anau, at piesent ou the H.M.S. • —, at Portsmouth, says:—"We have been lying here for a month, hut will shove off at the end of this week. Several of the Union Company's fellows have left the military and Joined the reserve, Including Messrs. Hatfield, Sizer, M'Leod, and M'Ouhbin, who all got commissions the other day. The motorboat wages have been reduced from £1 2s. 6d. per day to £1 os. Ed. for the commissioned officers, flow on earth they over KOt such a high wage nobody knows, for they are not sailors at oil, but yachtsmen, solicitors, bankers, and all sorts and conditions of men. There are 600 of these boats coming from America, but up to the present only 300 have arrived."
AKITA MABTJ PItOM JAPAN. Messrs. Hums. Philp and Co., agents in New Zealand for the Nippon l'usen Kalslia, adviso that, the Akita Mciu is to leave Sydney on Wednesday next for Wellington, and will arrive hore on September 24, a day later than was originally announced. The crew are composed wholly of Japanese, and in command is Oaptain' Tamaka.
LUOKENBACH LINE. Wireless advice las been received by Messrs. Dalgety and Co. that the steamer llattlo Luckenbaoh (Captain il'Donald), which left Now York on Angnst 3. will he duo in Auckland to-day and at, Wellington on Monday next. She has about 800 tons for discharge here.
SALVING ON PINO SUET. Advice from Cape Town states that tho work of Ealving tho cargo of the stranded lilue Funnel steamer Pine Sucy, now on the rocks at Dassen Island, is proceeding satisfactorily. Messrs. Stophan Bros., who are in charge of the operations, reported recently that 500 tons of general merchandise have already been landed in Table Bay Harbour, and, with the continuation of favourable weather, hopes are entertained of recovering tho greater part of tho remainder, which amounts to about 3000 tons'. With regard to the vessel itself, tho prospect 6 of got» ting her off the rock' are considered hopeful, provided the weather conditions remain favourable, notwithstanding that No. 2 hold 6hoivs indications of having sustained more damage than was at first anticipated.
H was found yesterday that owing to leaving Lyttelton much later thaai was expected it would bo impossible to dispatch tho Ngakuta for Grey-mouth until to-day.
After towing the hulk Elinor Vernon to Auckland,' and also discharging at Auckland, the Blackball Goal Company's steamer Ngahero loft the northern port on Monday lor Limestone Island, to load cement for Now Plymouth, Wanganui, and Wellington. She is expected at Wellington ou Saturday.
Shortly after eight o'clock last night the Tarawera left iytteltou for Welliugton, and is duo hero at noon to-day. Eho has 212 tons to discharge hero, and is due to sail for Napier, Gisborno, and Auckland at 8 o'clock to-night. Owing to rough weather at Grcymouth shipping is at a standstill, and tho Kamona (inside) and the Kini (outside) are 6till barbound.
Tho Kdramu, which arrived last evening from Lyttelton, will sail for New Plymouth to-day at 2 p.m. fiho receives cargo till noon only. The Corinna is now duo from Onehunga on Tuesday, and will sail at noon on that day for Tiniaru, Oamaru, and Duncdin. On account of having to go into dock at Duuedin, it is not likely that the Kaituua will arrive in Wellington until noxt Tuesday. '■ . Mr. H. Marsdon, of the shipping department of Messrs. Wright, Stophonton and Co., who has been indisposed lately, was able to resume his duties yesterday morning. Advice has been received that tho Hinemoa has left Russell for Whangaroa and Capo Maria. At Whangaroa she will overhaul a number of buoys, and after leav j ing Cape Maria will proceed to Kaipara to overhaul buoys.
The Kiritona is due hero from the East Coast on Sunday, and is oxpected to sail for'' Pelorus Sound on Monday..
Owing to heavy weather last evening the Blenheim ras unable- to ea.il f<w Wanganui, but will do 60 to-day, weather permitting. In order to undergo her annual survey and overhaul the coastal steamer Oygnct ■was placed on the Lyttelton patent slip on Monday afternoon. The little vessel is orpceted to resume her running in the Lyttclton-Kaikoura and Lyttelton-Akaroa trades at the beginning of October.
