BOWLS
' MEETING OF THE CENTRE. Mr. F. Meadowcroft (president.) occupied the chair, at a meeting of tlio Wol. lington Bowling Centre, held in the Wellington Club's pavilion last evening. The matter of the hew scheme of playing the pennant matches, adopted at the last meeting, came under further consideration, but after considerable discussion, including mention of another nystem of playing these, matches by Sir. .T. Keith (Victoria), no alteration in the deter-mination-to adhere to Mr. ,T. J. Roberts's scheme was made, except that it was decided that : in case of a tie, each club should score halt a point. This means that it will ■ not' be necessary for each pair of tennis to play an extra head after the 21. heads are played. Mr; Meadowcroft explained that tho action of ■' the Kelburn Club in withdrawing from tho pennants had been taken after duo consideration, and had been decided by a vote of the club's committee, who felt that participation in. tho matches would, by depriving the club of so many of its best players on every other Saturday, during the reason, tend to kill tho club. He wished to make that explanation, whilst not wishing to be in the least antagonistic to Mr. scheme, which might suit other clubs admirably.
Mr. Cooper (Knrori) asked if the junior stars could not be resuscitated this coming season. They had been held for tlireo years by the TTataitai Club, and lie thought that it would interest junior players. Ho would move that tho stars be played for during Hie coming season. This was seconded and. carried.
'Mr. S. Underwood (Newtown) moved 'hat a Centre tournament bo held during the. approaching season. ITe said there were many players who enjoyed tliat tournament, and ho (bought it a pity that it should be " cut out. Th» president said that it was usual not to hold the tournament during tho season tho big tournamont was held in Wellington. Mr. Keith said that it would have to be submitted to tho council of the Dominion Association, and they would certainly not grant permission, Mr. .T. ,T. Eobirts moved as an amendment that 110 Centre tournament be held in January. Tho amendment was carried, and tho motion lapsed. •
Mr. Underwood wished to discms the ouestion of postponing matches 011 tho days that troops loft Wellington, but tho president ruled that no decision could be arrived at as tlioro was no quorum, and it was a. question which should bo considered at a full meeting of tho Contre.
