London, September 10. A Russian official communique statos: "In the battles on the wooded Carpathians between August 31 and September 6 the' Russians took 1900 prisoners." „,.,,„„ . (Ree. The Russians arc in a half-circle about Halicz, which they continue to bombard The capture of Halicz would menace the'flank of the Guila Lipa line and also the second last line of the Lemberg defences. The Russians methodically continue their advance in the Carpathians, and the junction of the two* armies will accomplish the surrounding of the Austrians. The inhabitants of fourteen counties in Hungary have fled into Budapest, where the situation is serious, owing to tho shortage of supplies. GERMAN OFFICIAL COMMUNIQUE. London, September 10. A German official communiquo states: "Apart from repeated fruitless Russian attacks against the Stochod, the Eastern situation is unchanged. The enemy continues to gain ground westward of Sohepots, but otherwise he was everywhere repulsed." 'ENEMY PREPARES TO DEFEND LEMBERG. Berne, September 10. Austrian newspapers state that the last of the civilians have left Lemberg. A bugo force of Germans, Austrians, and Turks have concentrated ready to defend the city.to tho last man. , UNSUCCESSFUL GERMAN SEAPLANE RAID. London, September 10. A Russian official communique statos: "German seaplanes made two unsuccessful raids on Runo Island, in the Gulf of Riga and tho Irbon Straits."
