Auckland, September 11. Inquiries* made at the. Hospital as to the condition of tlio seven men still in the institution who were injured on ■Thursday flight as a result of the explosion of sulphuric acid on hoard tho Monowai a 6 the King's Wharf, showed that most di the men will be more or less seriouqly incapacitated as a result of the? acoident. H. Barnes, a married matt, 50 years of age, is probably the moat severely injured. Both eyes are badly affected, and his eyesight will he' seriously impaired. On his face and .arms the burnt tissue is separating frotoi the area affeoted. Tho wounds will take a long time to heal, and will leave, large permanent scars. C. Falknor, a married man, 55 years of age, is suffering from absorption of the dead tissue' on : his aims and legs destroyed by acjid. Both eyes of this patient are also severely injured, and grave fears are' entertained for his sight. J. Coutti, a single man, aged 51 years, is also suffering from absorption of the dead tiseuo on his face and arms, the burns having sunk very deep. Both eyes are in a bad condition, and his eyesight will be greatly impaired. J. Jonies, a married man, aged 42 years, hits been injured in bdth eyes, the right being in a bad condition, while the left,is slightly affected. Tho injuries to his face, arms, and back are healing as well as can be expected. J. Andorson, a married man, 69 years of afjge, will probably lose the sight of his left eye, which is badly burnt by acid- His right eye, which is also affected, is doing .well. The injuries to lis soouldcr and neck are improving. B. J. Jones, a single man, 47 years of age, ihas escaped fairly lightly, tho only.part affected being his left eye, tho sight of which will be slightly impaired. &,. Mitchell, a single man, aged 40 years, who was slightly injured on the legs, arms, and hands, is making satisfactory progress.
