CHARGE OF ATTEMPTED MURDER
——-* -, .. PEA RIFLE INCIDENT IN A MOTOR GARAGE. By Telegraph—Press Association. _. Auckland, September 10. The firing of a pea rifle in a motor garage on Friday night resulted in the admission of a wounded man to the Hospital, and the appearance N of /John Brown, caretaker of the garage, in the Police Court yesterday, charged with attempted murder. A remand was granted. According to the police story, a taxi-driver named Conway had hired a locker in Henning's garage, and late on Friday night he drove to the garage in a car, accompanied by a returned soldier named Francis Kelly. They were admitted y Brown, and are said to have annoyed him. Brown endeavoured to get away from them, and attempted to shut tho door of his private room against" them. He failed, and is then alleged to have taken up. a pea rifle with the object of intimidating them. A shot was fired, and Kelly was wounded. Brown immediately summoned the police, and told his 6tory frankly. Kelly insisted on leaving the Hospital after treatment, and walked the streets all night, with the result, that he is this afternoon in rather a serious condition.
