SOLDIER'S CHRISTMAS GIFTS
SPORTS BODIES' EFFORT.On Saturday evening a general committee of the Associated Amateur Sports, who are arranging functions whereby to raise money for Christmas gifts for soldiers, met at tho Town Hall. Mr. C. G: Wilson presided. The programme for the gather* ing to be held on the Basin Reserve was submitted and approved. It was stated that tho Miramar Golf Olub had donated £10, and had decided to arrange a- competition by which it was. hoped to -benefit the fund. It was reported also that the Tennis Association had decided to help by holding a competition; the Rugby Union would arrange for a veterans 1 match, and the Football Association (Soccer) 'would play its final match for the fund. The Boxing Association had been asked to arrange a boxing competition for soldiers in the Town Hall on October 7, and the Athletic Association is endeavouring to arrange a modified Marathon race. . The Badge Committee recommended that the 6alo of badges, flags, andflowers should commence about September 16. These sales would be made in the streets until October 7. The recommendation was adopted. Tho committee will meet again on Thursday night.
