FRENCH CLUB

At the French Club's meeting on Wednesday night, a very plcaßant evening lias spent. Mr. Hodson sang "Lo Toreador, 1 ' as an opening piece. Mr. Cooke gave a short sketch of the career of the author, and his style, and next dealt with the book itself, a work of fiction dealing with tho exploits of a brigand chief in Greece, in the last century. Extracts from the book were read by Mr. Whotton and Miss Mead. The concluding piece, a history of tho composition of "Tho Marseillaise," was given by Madame Dechanet M'lntosh, and that national hymn was sung by the assembled company. ■
