Williams heat Johnston (champion) after hard-fought sets: 4—6, 6—4, o—6, 6—2, . 6—4.' Johnston pjiayed wonderful passing shots. Williams resorted to the driving game, hitting with terrific force. Johnston's placing was. almost uncanny. As the game advanced Williams, who had been erratic, becamo stronger and more accurate, his well-, placed drives giving .Johnston trouble. Johnston 1 won tho first three games in the final set;, then Williams rallied'and won four in succession.
