HOW THE WORKING EXPENSES JUMP. How seriously the recent concession granted to the tramway employees is affecting tramways finance may he seen by a glance at tho returns presented to the Tramways Committee at yesterday's meeting. (period ended August 18). it is shown that the revenue for that period, compared with the corresponding period of last year,!.had increased by ,£1495, .which is satisfactory, '■ but that gain is not only wiped off, but a backward tendency is registered when it is shown that, the working expenses are .£2791 more' than they were last year. v ' The four-weekly return is as follows:—
