, ._♦_ _.- ' ANNUAL MEETING'. The annual congregational meeting of St. James's Church was held on Wednesday last, the Rev, Wm. Shirer presiding. In the annual report it was stated that Communicant members totalled 398. The highest attendance at Communion was 253—the avorago was 243. A. Mothers' Union has been organised, and has proved very successful. The Sunday-school work had, it was reported, been carried on under difficulties, with cheering success. The scholars totalled 358. and teachers 28. The cradle roll had 198 names. The Toung Men's Bible Class had 27 members, and the Xoung Women's - Bible Class 23. The Young Men's Junior Bible Class had 27 members, and the Young Women's Junior Bible Class 14. The Senior Endeavour Society had 20 members, and the Junior Society of Christian Endeavour 113. These societies also assist by contributions to Christian work. Cordial thanks were given to the members of the Women's Missionary Union for earnest, persevering work in obtaining subscriptions for missions. The membership is 110. The-Maori Mission Birthday League has 109 mombors. Warm appreciation was expressed of the good work'of the choir. As the result of a very generous,contribution by a member of the church, the deacons decided to procure a pipe Contributions were received, and JM9S is the sum now available. A contract has.been arranged for the erection of a suitable organ, and it is hoped that the balance reauited will ho forthcoming very soon. TEe ordinary revenue amounted to £7iS, and the gross revenue to .£1127. In this is included:. For orphanage and social 6ervice, .£32 195.; for missions and othor special objects, .'Votes of thanks were passed to Mr. M'Lay (hon. treasuser), Messrs. Allender and Hanghton (auditors), Mr. Hamilton (choir leader), the Uov. W. Shirer and Mrs. Shirer, and to all church workers.
