Walrarapa Girl as Prisoner of War
Tho many Wairarapa friends of-Dr. ana. Mrs. Deamer, formerly of Feathorston, but now of Sydnoy,. will bo vory glad to hear that they have at last received news of, their .daughter, of whom they had not been able to hoar anything since tho outbreak of war, moro than two years ago.. Miss Deamer was being educated in Belgium at a well-known convent in Charleroi, and tho last letters her parents had received from her were just at the outbreak of hostilities, when tbo German legions over-ran Belgium. From that time till about a fortnight ago nothing further had been heard from her or of.her, despite the most searching: inquiries, and her parents ' could only think that perhaps death had overtaken her in wave of murder, horror, and"" destruction that overwhelmed Belgium.
B.t yesterday's Australian mail a lotter was received by a Wellington friend from Mrs. Deamer saying that they had just received word from her daughtor who had been detained in Belgium, and the convent in which she was living turned into a hospital. She had not been able to Ret any communication through to relatives or friends, and for six months-constant efforts had been made to get "her transferred to Holland. At last these efforts had been successful, and at the time that Mrs! Deamer wrote her letter her daughter was due to arrive in Sydney, hy the Osterley, in about' a fortnight's time, with an ■ Australian girl who had shared some of her experiences. Miss Deamer should have somo exceedingly interesting experiences to relate when she reaches her people. "Dulcie Deamer." the clever 'authoress, whose stories of the Stono Aire, as well as her hook dealing with Indian life and various articles, have made her name familiar to' many" readers (Mrs. Albert CJoldie she became by marriage) is her •sister.
