Mr. Geo. Gould recently cabled to ft well-known Canterbury resident in London asking if he could ascertain tho relative retail counter prices of Argentine and New Zealand meats (says tho Christchurch "Press"), and has received a reply to the effect that "tlio retail price of lamb- in June and July was: Argentine 13d., New Zealand H}d. To-day tho prices are 12d. and llld., the difference being accounted for' by the fact that tho British Government fixed tlio New. Zealmd price of lamb in June, and a great scarcity of New Zealand lamb allowed Argentine, which is uncontrolled, to raise her price. AVhen our largo shipments arrive in London the Argentino sellers will probably cut prices."
