PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS
A HINT FROM THE Y.M.C.A. Under the conditions that exist it is almost impossible for every parcel sent from New Zealand to soldiers in Franco to roach its destination in good order and condition, particularly it tho contents are perishable. Writing to Wellington on this subject, Secretary W. A. Hislop said in a recent letter:— "Re personally-addressed parcels: When Mr. Kaye, of Christclrarch, was in the other day we discussed these, and I told him how difficult it was for us to deliver these parcels, and he included a message in his cablegram to that effect. It is almost impossible for us now to deal with these. I had a cablegram from Cairo the other day saying that nineteen cases had been sent on through the O.C. Gifts, London. .The only way to have these handled will bo to allow him to do it. I am going to discuss the position with him on the first opportunity. The most satisfactory way to handle personal gifts would be to have tho money sent on to me, and I can have a really good parcel made up in London and forward it. Many, of the parcels that are sent when opened up are found to be in bad condition. I <lo not know what tho parcels that are coming from Egypt will be like, but if tliey have been oh the way for some time, 1 am afraid that a lot of tho contents will he bad. People who wish to send parcels direct to their friends at tho front should address them direct to their units."
