Military Wedding in Christohuroli. The wedding took place in St. Michael's Church, Christchurch, on Wednesday, of Miss Edith May Smith, daughter of Mr. A. W. Smith, of Christchurch, to Lieutenant Allistcr Ewen Macpherson (A Company Ist Canterbury Regiment), and son of Mr. Alex. Macpherson, St. Albans, and of tho Agricultural Department, Christchurch. The Rev. Canon Bean performed the ceremony, and Mr. Hunt played the organ. Many friends were presont, and at 1 the conclusion of the ceremony the bridegroom's follow officers made an archway of swords outside the church, through which tho bride and bridegroom had to pass. Miss Doris Evans and Miss Freda Ricketts were bridesmaids. Lieutenant' M. Tisdall was best man, and Bombardier Evans the groomsman. From the officers of tho Ist Canterbury Regiment tho bridegroom received a silver vegetable dish, and the employees of Mr. A. W. Smith gave a silver egg stand. Mayoress's Christmas Pudding Fund. The fortnightly meeting of the St. John Ambulance Brigade i Overseas Wellington 'Nursing Division, was held recently, The evening was spent in practice.Work, and very good work-was done. Officers' Ball. The officers of the 17th Reinforcements intend to give a ball in tho Concert Chamber at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening next. Hitherto the officers of Reinforcements have given a farewell dance to their lady friends in the Wellington Racing Club's tea kiosk at Trentham, but the "Seventeenths" have decided,-for sevoral reasons, to come to town and dispense such tcrpsichorean hospitality as lies in their power. Captain John Keir, of Wellington, was in town yesterday making the Accessary arrangements. Red Cross Work. The Hatuitai and North Kilbirnio Red Cross Sewing Guild, formed some time ago from members of this branch of tho Women's National Reserve, forwarded last week to England for distribution to the Navy Sailors' Dependants two cases of children's clothing. The guild is fortunate in having some members who are expert knitters. One case was entirely filled with beautifully knitted garments. Tho workers, who rnoet at the residence of Mrs. C. H. Seville, have been in. chargo of Mcsdaines Plimmer and Bayfield. Mrs. Greenelade now replaces Mrs. Bayfield, who is retiring, and the regular Red Cross work is being gone on with. Something ill tho nature of a blanket famine is affecting Melbourne and Sydney, according to a statement by tho Royal Prince Alfred Hospital authorities. Great difficulty, it is said, is being experienced in getting hospital supplies, including food, ■ drugs, hardware, drapery, and bedding. Lately there has been serious difficulty in procuring blankets, the Government having coinniandeercd the fnotory output for troops. All the Sydney hospitals have suffered recently. The Royal I'rince Alfred Hospital required 100 pairs of blankets, and it was-only through the efforts of. Mr. Samuel Hordern, the honorary treasurer, -that '50 pairs were secured. The prices, ol course, were very-high. The Melbourne Hospital'needed 500 pairs, aud it was impossible to get them except at prices which had advanced, according to tho Rev. Canon E. S. Hughes, from-6s. 9d. to ISs. 9d. No assistanco can he expected from British manufacturers, who aro 60 busy, that long deliveries are. asked for. Victoria League Effort for Sailors. Tho vaudeville entertainment' which is to bo given in the Concert 'Chamber of tho Town Hail this evening by the Victoria League concert party promises to be a very bright and attractive affair. There will be songs, choruses,, trios, quartets, and some pretty dances (solo and otherwise), contributed by; various members of tho party. Taking part iu tho programme are tho Misses Dall, N. Haybittle, Clarke-Johnston, D. Wilson, D. Wilberfoss, G. Davics, and the -Misses Putijam (3), all of whom havo frequently taken part in various entertainments in connection with the Victoria League,, either in, the city or at Trentham Camp. Colonel Purdy is also assisting by contributing recitations. There will be stalls for sweets and flowers, which will ho ill clia-rgo of Mrs. Kirker, and Miss Salmond, and Misses Francis and Hamilton, assisted by ' several soldiers. Large supplies of flowers have been promised.' Tho proceeds of the evoning are to go to <thc Victoria League's Fund for Christmas presents for tho sailors on the New Zealand ships,- and in. view of all that they have been experiencing lately iu the way of terrible heat, and its accompanying discomforts, it is hoped that the entertainment will be well supported by the public, Maranui School Bazaar. Tlio Maranui School bazaar was continued yesterday afternoon and evening, and again the financial results Wero very satisfactory. Tlio stalls had been replenished, and tho many people who attended tho sale found much to attract their attention and their money. In the afternoon an interesting programme had been arranged, a maypole dance being performed by a number of children with anuch success, and a pretty gavotte. Miss Easson. and Miss Bouttell also contributed instrumental items at intervals. For the evening two concerts had been arranged, Laura Bcggs, Sydney Perkin, and a cliorus contributing "The Toy Diiet," Mona Dayes and .Robert Craig, "The irfineh Bonnet," senior girls dancing a gavotte, and junior children taking part in' a- miniature cantata, ''Soot and the Fairies." At the later, concert the contributors were Mrs. H. F. Wood, Sergt.-Jla.jor. C. Martin, 'Mr. H. F. Wood with songs; Miss E. Church ill, a monologue; Master Winston Macarthy, "some Scotch" (after Harry Lauder); Miss Nellie Simpson, a'flute solo; Mr. and Mrs. 11. F. Wood, a duet; and Mr. W. H. Crawford, a humorous item. Tho piano had been lent by the Bristol Company.
