AMERICAN CRUISER WRECKED
TWENTY LIVES LOST. Australian-New Zealand Cable Association. (Rec. August 31, 1.25 a.m.) New York, August 30. Nows from San Domingo states that the U.S. cruiser Memphis was driven ashore in a storm. A gunboat went to the resoue. ' Twenty lives were lost. During the removal of the crew the inrushing water extinguished the cruiser's fires. The commander reports that the cruiser will' be a total loss.
